Swing Shift

You can always count on Nancy Smith and her Frequent Flyers aerial dance troupe to serve holiday fare with a twist, and this year’s Swing Into the Holidaze, an up-in-the-air tribute to the swing era, follows suit: Accompanied by music that ranges from rave-ups like Louis Prima’s “Sing, Sing, Sing” to Gershwin’s aurally picturesque An American in Paris, it’s a family-friendly show that’s in constant flight, on bungies, aerial fabric, stilts, hoops, trapezes and more.

“It’s very upbeat, but also very beautiful, and there are moments of humor, too,” Smith says of the show, which opens tonight. “It’s a good alternative to all the sticky-sweet holiday stuff out there. The blending of aerial work with the swing-era style of movement is unique, and the physicality of what my troupe does is always moving up another notch.”

Catch Swing Into the Holidaze at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December 20 at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street, Boulder; get tickets, $15 to $23, at www.frequentflyers.org, or call 303-444-SEAT.
