’Tis the Season

Truthfully, the annual Swallow Hill Holiday Party is really just a concert, though there’s usually a pre-show potluck shmooze for members. But as publicist Chip Herter makes clear, it’s not only a really good concert, but also a cheap one. “Historically, it’s always been a showcase where we try to provide an example of cutting-edge regional entertainment at minimal cost,” he says. “It’s meant to be a holiday treat for members and community alike, but ticket prices are significantly reduced for this event.”

This year’s headliner is Elephant Revival, a Nederland quintet whose music is self-described as “transcendental folk,” which, Herter adds, amounts to “a nice blend of folk, Americana and newgrass.” And opener Laura Goldhamer (with her band, the Silvernail), who illustrates her performances with projected animation, is no slouch, either. As for the admission price, if you’re a member, it’s free; if you’re not, it’s only $15 — a small price to pay to hear the future of the Front Range.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at Swallow Hill Music Hall, 71 East Yale Avenue; for tickets and information, visit www.swallowhill.com or call 303-777-1003.
Sun., Dec. 13, 7 p.m., 2009
