Back in the 'Hood

One cool thing about our homegrown Flobots: The indie phenoms may tour the nation now, but they still stay true to their schools. To that end, they'll host a progressive Flobots.org Holiday Hootenanny that begins tonight at 6 p.m. with a laid-back reception at the Flobots.org Community Center before moving next door to the Meadowlark Lounge for live music by Laura Goldhamer, Jen Korte and the Loss and others, along with magic by Phelyx the Mentalist and juggling by Reid Belstock.

"We'll have magicians, jugglers and some really good acts who are donating their time, and it'll have a kitschy, old-time, Christmas hootenanny sing-along, play-whatever kind of feel to it," says publicist Laura Bond of the 21-and-up shindig. "All proceeds will go to support a new Flobots.org music outreach program. The Flobots themselves, as well as other local musicians, artists and poets, will be going into schools and community centers, bringing with them the message of music as a tool of civic engagement."

Called the Art to Activism Outreach Program, it launches in January, focusing first on schools in the Five Points area. Shmooze at the center, 2705 Larimer Street, before moving on to the Meadowlark, 2701 Larimer Street at 8 p.m.; get details at www.flobots.org.
