Bar crawls are tough to plan. Some people do it by selecting all the spots in advance, contacting the bars to arrange drink specials and then inviting all of their friends. Some don't. But these crawls are notoriously unsuccessful because the route sucks, the drink specials don't materialize, friends bail and no one stays on schedule.

This holiday season, leave the planning to the professionals at the Schnockered Santa Pub Crawl, which begins today at 5:30 p.m. at the Ginn Mill, 2041 Larimer Street, and continues to Lodo's, the Tavern Downtown, Pour House and Nallen's before finishing at Scruffy Murphy's for closing festivities and an after-party. Teams of four or more (required) will compete in one ridiculous game at each bar — think beer pong, putt-putt, bust the balloon and pin the dart on Santa's caboose — for sweet prizes and bar tabs.

"The funnest bar crawls are the ones where you compete in a team, because you can come with friends and meet people," says event coordinator Suzanne Hendricks. "A lot of young people can't afford to go home for the holidays, and if they don't work in an office, they don't have a Christmas party. So I figured this would be fun for them."

Proceeds benefit Colorado Service Dogs, a nonprofit that trains furry companions for those in need. The cost is $25, and costumes are encouraged. For information, go to www.schnockeredpubcrawl.com or just show up at 5:30.
