Inside Job

Rabbi Jamie Korngold, best known on the Front Range as the Adventure Rabbi, mixes religion with the great outdoors all year long. But when asked about the annual Adventure Rabbi Chanukah Party, which takes place under a roof, she has this story to tell: "In eight years, the only event we ever canceled was the indoor Chanukah party. A few years ago, there was a huge storm in Boulder and the whole town was closed."

God works in strange ways.

But barring another barrage from the heavens, this year's event is on — and, Korngold adds, the family festivity isn't just centered around eating latkes, though there will be plenty of that. "The focus of the party is community. We have a very busy summer, but the winter is different. We have some skiing events, but not everyone skis. We have indoor services, but not everyone wants to be indoors. This is our biggest opportunity for our congregation to get together in the wintertime."

Join the fun from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Chautauqua Community House, 900 Baseline Road in Boulder; admission is $5 to $10 (children under six admitted free). Bring your own plates, cups and cutlery, and a menorah, if you like; e-mail jeanette.domber@mac.com to RSVP. Get information at www.adventurerabbi.org.
