Pin-Up Girl

Everyone's got a back-story, and that includes former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, though in her case you'd think the main story – the one about being the first woman in history to hold that post – would be enough. Think again. Albright's unique new pictorial memoir, Read My Pins: Stories From a Diplomat's Jewel Box, created in conjunction with an exhibit this past fall at the Museum of Arts & Design in New York, blends both stories by approaching professional milestones through her famous brooch collection, using each piece of jewelry as the stepping-off point for each remembrance. As you will learn, Albright's pins held symbolic meanings for her, and she wore them accordingly throughout her career. Albright, who has a Denver past, will return to town tonight for a presentation and book signing at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street.

Free numbers for a place in the book-signing line will be given out beginning at noon for the 1 p.m. appearance, and seating for the reading is first-come, first-served; for more information, go to www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-436-1070.
Tue., Dec. 22, 1 p.m., 2009
