Sometimes at Christmas, it's the little things we appreciate most. And Jill Warner of Mod Livin' knows that better than most folks: She says it's the little things, most of them priced under $100, that fly out of the mid-century modern emporium each holiday season. Here are a few of her favorites.
First, Warner touts the entire Alessi line of cheeky, non-traditional miniatures and kitchen and household gadgets, but the Presepe Group modern nativity, a kind of oval diorama with removable figures, screams holiday charm. We also like Alessi's Mr. Suicide bathtub plug, the Magic Bunny toothpick holder and the Captain Banana corkscrew. Also popular this season are oh-so-chic contemporary boxed snowflake ornaments by Roost and striking oversized graphic wall calendars by Stendig. From Areaware, Warner's got brightly colored multi-purpose roller skates that can serve as bookends, doorstops or simply as objects, and the stuffed beasts in Donna Wilson's Creatures Collection out-ugly Uglydolls, which means they are adorable. And finally, Warner is all agog about a line of unlabeled mystery boxes from Japan, each of which contains one of thirty different miniature modern chairs. Delightful.
