Blue Christmas

Since Josh Blue, a local comic with cerebral palsy, won NBC's Last Comic Standingback in 2006, things have certainly changed — including his material. "Now that people know who I am, I don't really have to talk as much about the disability stuff," Blue says. He's also been hitting the comedy circuit with a vengeance, taking the stage in different cities to make people laugh, which has improved his timing and delivery. "A lot of people say I'm getting tighter," he notes. "But if you do something five nights a week, then you'd better get better, or there's something fucking wrong with you."

He still loves playing shows in Denver, though. "There's more hometown pride," Blue says. "People still love their Elway. It's that kind of thing where when you did good by Colorado, people love you for it."

Yes, we do.

Blue will stand up tonight at 6:30, 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. at his favorite club in the country, the downtown Comedy Works, 1226 15th Street. Tickets are $22, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the National Sports Center for the Disabled; get yours at 303-595-3637 or www.comedyworks.com. And keep your eyes peeled for a musical experiment called Josh Blue and the Hooligan Stew Review, a collaboration between Blue and Zebra Junction now available on CD.
Sat., Dec. 26, 6:30, 8:30 & 10:30 p.m., 2009
