Woe was the Jew on the Christmas Eve of old, the lonely, left-out Jew with a $1.25 scoop of fried rice and a $10 ticket to Whatever Disney's Shilling. But not since 2007, when Heebonism made its debut in Denver, has that young(ish), probably (though not necessarily) single Jew had to settle for second celebratory fiddle. "Fuck the Chinese food and the movie," says Eric Elkins, one of the E's in E-3 Events, which is throwing tonight's Hebrew-centric evening of hedonism. "You can do that on Christmas Day. Get out here and drink with your friends and, for lack of a better term, hook up with the Jewish community."
This year's event, like those of Heebonisms past, will feature a festive, booze-soaked atmosphere highlighted by local mix/mash/scratch talent (DJ Vajra, Ginger and Max Klaw). New and drastically improved is the addition of an all-night, open-bar after-party on site, thanks to the venue's also being a hotel. "What's so amazing about this is that we're taking over the entire building," explains Elkins. "We're going to own the Jet Hotel for Christmas Eve, and I think that's going to be a totally unique experience."
The Jet is at 1612 Wazee Street; Heebonism kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $18, and the toll at the door is $25, though bringing three non-perishable items for Jewish Family Services earns a $5 discount. Discount room packages start at $99 and include two tickets. Bottle service is available and begins at $100.
"Anybody who doesn't have plans on Christmas Eve is totally welcome to hang with us," adds Elkins, who says some of his best friends are gentiles. "We're going to have 500 people there looking to have a great time. And no one in that fucking place is going to be waiting around for Santa."
