Homecoming Humor

The Improv Cavalcadeat the Avenue Theatre is a parade not just of the city's best improvisational performers, but some of our quickest-witted ex-pat talent. "We have a number of improvisers that used to perform here in Denver and either moved to Chicago or L.A. to continue on," says the Cavalcade's Mike Malyar. "A lot of these people are returning for the holidays, so we're going to have a good cross-section of performers."

More About

An all-gay ensemble, La Gay, will perform the first set tonight at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Gypsy Cab Company, which is more of an improv collective. "The format is simple," Malyar says. "There are two different types of improvisation. There's short-form — which is like Whose Line Is It Anyway?, where it's a number of different suggestions — and then long-form, where you take one suggestion that inspires a number of different scenes or monologues." The Cavalcade includes three sets of long-form improv. Tickets are $12; the Avenue Theater is located at 417 East 17th Avenue. For more information, call 303-321-5925 or go to www.avenuetheater.com.
