If youre kicking yourself for not making the trek up to Morrison last fall to see the well-received Miners Alley production of Jeffrey Hatchers A Picasso, opportunity is knocking again: The exact staging, with Chris Kendall as Picasso and Paige Lynn Larson as Miss Fischer, the Nazi attaché, is being revived at the Mercury Cafe, beginning tonight at 7:30 p.m. In the drama, Picasso is called to a cafe, and the Gestapo gal he meets there has been assigned to certify which of three Picasso works confiscated from Jewish families is the real thing; the ensuing power struggle between the fiery, egotistical artist and his cold interrogator is the meat of a complex work. Kendall and Larson both won local kudos for their commanding performances in what is essentially a two-person show.
See A Picasso at the Merc, 2199 California Street, at 7:30 p.m. Fridays through January 29; to reserve tickets, $10, call 303-294-9258. Get details at www.mercurycafe.com.
Fridays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 8. Continues through Jan. 29, 2010
