Tish Is Back in Town

You know the year is off to a good start when Tejana folk artist Tish Hinojosa comes to town. Her annual visits to the Swallow Hill Music Hall are always reason to celebrate, but especially now. It’s become a longer trip for Hinojosa, who used to reside full-time in Austin but currently lives overseas in Hamburg, Germany, with a new husband and an autobiographical book-in-progress on her plate. A true Americana practitioner whose melting pot of hand-penned music cooks together a border-hopping gumbo of conjunto, country and bluegrass, Hinojosa carries the whole beautiful mess with her crystal-clear vocals and clear-eyed, gentle, down-home outlook.

The always delightful Hinojosa performs tonight at Swallow Hill, 71 East Yale Avenue, after opener Amy Speace, a New York singer-songwriter, warms the crowd at 8 p.m.; tickets are $22 in advance and $24 at the door (Swallow Hill members get a $2 discount). Get info at www.swallowhillmusic.org or call 303-777-1003.
