Dale Chisman’s Legacy

There were to have been three exhibits this month celebrating Dale Chisman, the Colorado artist who died in 2008, but with Metro’s Center for Visual Art moving from LoDo to a new building on Santa Fe Drive, its retrospective was postponed, and the solo show slated for the Robischon Gallery was also delayed. That leaves only Z Art Department’s Remembering Dale Chisman still on track. “Being in this business, I know that artists slip into the abyss and are quickly forgotten after they pass away,” says Z director Randy Roberts, “and Dale was so important to abstraction in Colorado, I didn’t want that to happen to him.”

Roberts has assembled paintings and works on paper for this memorial show. “The exhibit is small but the scope is large, allowing people to take a deeper look at Dale’s evolution as an artist,” he explains, adding that most of the work dates from between 1986 and 1997. “This fills a void, since most people are accustomed to seeing his more recent pieces,” Roberts adds.

The show opens tonight with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at Z, 1136 Speer Boulevard. For more information, call 303-298-8432.
