Art of the Century

Hugh Grant, founder of the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, is unquestionably the best friend Colorado art has ever had, and he’s done more to promote it in the last few years than the Denver Art Museum has in a hundred. “The thing that occurs to me over and over again is that Colorado art has left a legacy not just for us, but for all Americans, and that any state in the country would be thrilled to have the artists that we have and have had,” he says.

Grant not only presents shows at his home base, but he also takes his collection on the road, as he’s doing now with Kirkland Museum Collection: 100 Years of Colorado Art, at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. The Kirkland’s collection includes work by 400 artists, a list Grant narrowed down to 100 for this exhibit. Selected pieces range in date from 1875 to 1975 and are presented in chronological order. Prints and drawings will be showcased in the center’s upper galleries, while paintings and sculptures are on view in the expansive lower galleries.

The show continues through April 4. For more information, call 720-898-7200 or go to www.arvadacenter.org.
