Size Is Better

If local fashion maven Brandi Shigley had a million dollars, she’d use it to help local designers build their businesses. Since she doesn’t, she’s doing what she can: Shigley recently moved her cramped Fashion Denver headquarters to more spacious digs around the corner at 1070 Bannock Street, where she can begin to realize her long-term vision.

“I felt like my little spot on Cherokee Row was wonderful, but it did get to a point where we really outgrew it,” Shigley laments. “I had so many designers packed in, and when I had an event, you couldn't even move in there.” Not so now: For the first time, she can open up workshops to more than a few designers at a time, as well as offer them expanded display space to show off their chic wares to the public.

Cause for celebration? You’d better believe it. Shigley’s throwing her Fashion Denver Showroom Grand Opening tonight, and she promises an evening of non-stop fun, with trunk shows, informal Parisian-style fashion shows, live music and DJs, mini-manicures and makeovers for guys and gals (“You’ll be able to get girlied or boyed up,” Shigley enthuses) and, especially, a chance to meet and talk to the designers under her wing. “I want the attendees to really learn about the fashions — to not just see them, but to also meet the brains behind them,” she says.

Party with Shigley and friends from 5 to 9 p.m.; admission is free. Get information at www.fashiondenver.com.
Fri., Jan. 22, 6-9 p.m., 2010
