True Adventure

Though he died over half a century ago, Allen Tupper True’s work has been thrust back into the spotlight. In the past few months, the Denver artist has been the subject of a book, a documentary and a three-part exhibition being presented at the Denver Public Library, the Denver Art Museum and the Colorado History Museum.

You can see all three today during a tour that ends with a presentation by the trio of curators responsible: Julie Anderies, Peter Hassrick and Alisa Zahller. Three Views of True is being presented by DU Art!, the support group for the University of Denver’s School of Art and Art History. “True attended DU, and all three curators graduated from DU,” says Anderies, who coordinated the tour. “DU has been an integral part of the art scene in Denver since the 1890s.”

Tickets for the daylong event, which begins at 10 a.m. in the DAM’s Hamilton Building (100 West 14th Avenue Parkway), are priced from $50 to $60 and include lunch and a field trip to the Mountain States Telephone Building, where a baker’s dozen of True murals are installed.
