Warming Up

When editor Beth Conover wanted to engage people on the issue of climate change, she did some research and realized that "it didn't seem like there was anything nationally that describes the different ways that climate-change issues are impacting our lives at this time. I wanted to do that in a way that was very place-based and really engage some of the best writers, thinkers and policymakers I know."

The result is her new tome, How the West Was Warmed: Responding to Climate Change in the Rockies. Coordinating the sheer number of essays in the book was a challenge, but Conover believes it lends the book strength. "I just really wanted to make sure there was a little bit in there for a lot of people, because most of the people I knew were concerned about climate in an abstract way but didn't really know what to attach it to. And I think once you understand how things work in your own life, then it becomes easier to understand them on a national or international level."

Conover will sign How the West Was Warmed tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl Street; call 303-447-2074 or visit www.boulderbookstore.com. To learn more about the book, visit www.howthewestwaswarmed.com.
