Beer Pong Goes Big

Wanna play beer bong in public? Easy: No fewer than four organizations and two dozen bars make that happen almost any night of the week. Wanna win the $1,100-plus entry into the 2011 World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas? Then you’ll need to join the Gingperial Beer Pong City Tour, a nine-month series of eight qualifying tournaments and a Grand Champion tournament held in bars across the Denver metro area.

Tonight’s stop at Coyote Ugly, the tour’s fifth, pits 64 (or more) teams of two against one another on octagonal, dominator-style tables. They’ll compete for $200 in cash, tickets to an Avalanche game and a spot in May’s Grand Championship tourney, which determines who goes to Vegas. Those who lose early or simply don’t have the balls to play will find DJ EZ spinning all night and a party atmosphere like no other.

“It’s not like a friggin’ dudefest or anything,” says organizer Wes Gingher, who adds that 80 percent of participants are just there for the good time. “A ton of girls come out for these things — good-looking girls, especially at Coyote Ugly, since they’ll be dancing on the bar and all that.”

Entry is $40 (or $35 in matching uniforms) and required in advance by e-mailing signup@gingperial.com. Pool play begins at 7 p.m., with a single-elimination tournament to follow. Coyote Ugly is at 500 16th Street, in the Denver Pavilions. Get more information at www.gingperial.com.
