If you’ve ever gone to Buttermilk for the Winter X Games, you probably ended up watching them on the JumboTron like everybody else, freezing your butt off and realizing why these are made-for-TV events. This year, save yourself the trip and join 20,000 snow-sports industry insiders at Skyline Park instead, where the Aspen Skiing Company and Winter X Games will broadcast the drama live on the big screen from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The screenings are being held in conjunction with the SnowSports Industries America trade show, an industry-only event that’s being held in Denver for the first time, after 37 years in Las Vegas. To get the industry together with the public, however, the city’s convention and visitors’ bureau, Visit Denver, has billed the weekend as The World’s Largest Après Ski + Ride Party, and there are ski/snowboard-themed events sponsored by Colorado ski areas at just about every bar and restaurant within a snowball’s throw of the Colorado Convention Center.

On Friday, head to the Fillmore Auditorium for the eleventh annual Transworld Snowboarding Riders’ Poll Awards (tickets are $17; ages sixteen and up) and a special award presentation to snowboarding pioneer Tom Burt.
