In the liner notes to the reissue of the Raincoats' debut album, Kurt Cobain wrote about how listening to those songs made him feel like a voyeur into a private world due to the intimacy and immediacy of the music. And while Dream Wagon (due at the Larimer Lounge on Saturday, January 30) doesn't have much in common with the Raincoats beyond having a violin player, that same delicacy of feeling and fearless vulnerability informs this project's songwriting. Dream Wagon is a core trio that often features guest players who bring a different flavor to the band's charming sound, which reflects the aesthetics of folk and indie pop but isn't really either. If anything, Lindsay Thorson, Allison Sheldon and Emily Hall craft the sort of songs one shares with a few close friends, perhaps singing together around a campfire.
