It all started six years ago when Robbie Bowman, a server at Vesta Dipping Grill, challenged his co-workers to grow mustaches the quirkier the better, he thought. And while he was at it, why not turn the staffs hair-raising shenanigans into a bona fide mustache festival? If youve been to Vesta this month and noticed the male staff looking, well, scruffy, its because the annual Mustache Festival comes down today, and the men are gearing up for a spirited competition between themselves and diners who are highly encouraged to sport their own crumb-catchers.

Well also have a good deal of fake mustaches on hand for ladies and gents who dont have a mustache of their own, promises Bowman, adding that true diehards can Sharpie in a mustache if theyre feeling bold. Hairy participants get a free shot of Stranahans whiskey, not to mention the opportunity to win some awesome prizes, like a centerfold poster of Tom Selleck. The party at Vesta, 1822 Blake Street, also includes a raffle and DJ spins. Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Its a hilarious night, and the DJ keeps everything jumping, but the charitable component, which we just added this year, gives it a stronger purpose, explains Vesta owner Josh Wolkon. For more info, call 303-296-1970.
