Panty Raid

Saturday, February 6, Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, 303-297-1772.

When not performing as a member of the Glitch Mob, Ooah (Josh Mayer) sometimes collaborates with Martin Folb in Panty Raid. Not firmly entrenched in a specific style of electronic music, this project seems to freely associate and appropriate sound ideas and techniques from a wide variety of sources, including dubstep and hip-hop. The resulting collage of sounds and samples may have its roots in William Burroughs's cut-up technique, using music and noises rather than literary fragments, but the ensuing imposition of rhythmic logic reveals Folb and Mayer's knack for finding fresh and fascinating connections between disparate sources. The duo's recent release, The Sauce, showcases the same with a shameless yet playful use and abuse of technology to push further into the frontier of electronic music.
