After playing with alt-country outfit Drag the River and the New Haven-based rockers Hot Rod Circuit, Casey James Prestwood went out on his own and released his honky-tonk-flavored solo debut, The Hurtin' Kind, in 2006. As with his debut, Falling Apart the Seams shows Prestwood's affinity for '60s and '70s country and honky-tonk, especially Gram Parsons and Merle Haggard. On Seams, Prestwood has assembled a first-rate group of players, including Band of Annuals' pedal-steel player Brent Dreiling and singer Jeremi Hanson, who help beef up a fine set of Prestwood originals and Merle Haggard's "The Longer You Wait," Doug Sahm's "Cowboy Peyton Place" and Charlie Monroe's "Down in the Willow Garden." The album may be titled Falling Apart at the Seams, but it's clear that Prestwood totally has his shit together.
