Tell Me a Story

Norma Moore, the artistic director of Stories on Stage, is "a crazy reader," notes executive director Abbe Stutsman: "She reads hundreds of short stories a year. She'll then try to find a theme that courses through different stories. Norma's quite brilliant."

That should be evident to anyone who's ever patronized Stories on Stage before, but in case you haven't, the idea is to have several actors each read a short story in front of an audience. The stories are followed by a reception (with free milk and cookies) where the audience can meet the actors and staff. This time around, Stories on Stage is presenting the theme As Time Goes By. "It's about how sometimes doing the unexpected can lead you to find your true essence," explains Stutsman. "We try to create empathy between individuals and groups. And there are great discussions with the audience afterward."

Head to the Stage Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex at 1:30 or 6:30 p.m. today; tickets are $25, but discounts are available for groups, and scholarship tickets are available through the LoDough program. Call 303-494-0523 or visit www.storiesonstage.org.
