Avast Body of Art!

A pair of old Pirate gallery friends, clay artist Marie E.v.B. Gibbons and sculptor Craig Robb, finally share billing in Double Entendre, which opened February 26 at Ironton Studios & Gallery, 3636 Chestnut Place. In a departure from her familiar, otherworldly ceramic works, Gibbons is showing dreamy mixed-media wall works slathered with beeswax encaustic, a look that blends well with Robb’s wood-and-metal vignettes. But fans of Gibbons’s ceramic creations shouldn’t fear this foray into new forms: “Each panel includes one piece of clay,” she promises. Double Entendre continues at Ironton through April 3; get information at www.irontonstudios.com or call 303-297-8626.

And another Pirate will also embark on a RiNo adventure tonight. Peter Illig’s epic, 62-foot-long charcoal drawing, “The Logic of Dreams,” was a big hit when it was first shown at Pirate a few years ago, and Illig will give it a repeat showing during a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hinterland, 3254 Walnut Street. (A second reception is slated for the same place/same time on First Friday, March 5.) For more info, visit www.sabinaell.com/hinterland or call 720-309-1764.
