Mustangs & Madras had a rare ability to write introspective songs filled with nuanced emotional colorings and utterly convincing intensity. "I'll Never Live Long Enough to Spend All My Money (South Beach Bitch)" bears this out, and the streaming guitar swirls sound like a perfect marriage of post-hardcore urgency and dream-pop drift. "If I Start Snoring (Just Make Out With Me)" sketches a resonantly fragile melody over an insistent rhythm throughout while still managing to sound portentous. "Tomahawk" finds Mustangs in more familiar territory, with burning sonic catharsis and some sway in the controlled aggression of its pacing. The ascending, circling dynamism of "Demon Stance" traces the boundaries of where this band could go without completely changing up its aesthetic. Caution: Bang! is a consistently fascinating portrait of musicians going boldly above and beyond genre.
