Weird Science

Forget testing your mental mettle against grade-school kids. For a real challenge, head to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science’s Science Lounge for tonight’s Are You Smarter Than a Scientist? Even if you’re not sure how many electrons a hydrogen atom has, you’ve still got a shot: There will be more typical pub-quiz questions to level the field, and you can earn extra points with an optional scavenger hunt, guessing games and cockroach races.

“It’s embracing your inner geek,” explains Liz Davis, adult programs manager for the museum. “Anyone who comes can find some-thing they like, from just enjoying being in the museum at night to really trying to learn something.”

There’s also booze — and everyone likes booze. Since the Science Lounge is open only to adults (21 and up), it will be equipped with a cash bar, which might not help your science knowledge but will certainly make losing less painful. And if you’ve got the science and trivia chops to win it all, you’ll get to take home the Science Lounge Geek Cup as well as the satisfaction of knowing that you’re smarter than a scientist.

The Science Lounge is open from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the museum, 2001 Colorado Boulevard. Tickets are $8 for DMNS members, $10 for nonmembers; for more info, visit www.dmns.org/sciencelounge or call 303-322-7009
Third Thursday of every month, 6:30-9:30 p.m., 2010
