Is Denver the creative capital of the West? That’s the question Create Denver Week aims to answer with seven days of parties, shows, films and discussions. The event has already displayed some creative juice by growing from the single-day expo it’s been for the last four years to a week-long extravaganza.

“We wanted to create more of a spectacle environment,” says Ginger White, senior economic development specialist with the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. “It’s an opportunity to hit the refresh button a little, get more people into the conversation.”

That conversation starts today with the fifth annual Create Denver Expo, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wellington E. Webb Building. At 11 a.m., Create Denver Commons: Paper Garden and Pop-Up Market will pop up at 1600 Glenarm Street; that storefront project stays up through April 17. “It’s a physical representation of the creative economy,” says White. “It’s interesting, cool, and creates buzz…but it’s also substantive.” And from 7 to 11 p.m., the Create Denver Week Launch Party takes over 1490 Delgany Street.
