Play Ball!

Every baseball team wants to win its home opener, and the Colorado Rockies have been fortunate in that regard, going 10-7, including a victory over the Phillies last year.

This year’s opponent is the San Diego Padres, and the game should be a good one, no matter the weather, because Opening Day is a time for renewal, a time for spring fever, a time to get rip-roaringly drunk and careen around LoDo like a three-legged Doberman with rabies. It’s also on a Friday, which is unusual — not that the staff at the Blue Moon Brewing Company @ the Sandlot, Coors Field’s restaurant and pub, minds. “It doesn’t matter to us, other than Friday afternoons seem like a bigger party because no one has to work the next day,” says John Legnard, part of the brewing team there.

So, which beer should you pair with a hot dog? “The one in your hand,” Legnard says.

And if you don’t have tickets, head to any LoDo bar. The fact is, nothing beats blowing off work and watching Tulo, Todd, Spilly and CarGo take the field. The game starts at 2:10 p.m. at Coors Field. Tickets are available from scalpers standing on street corners. For more information, go to http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com.
