Breasts of the West

Breakfast! It’s what’s for dinner! That’s the siren song of this year’s Breakfast for Boobs, a benefit to battle breast cancer. The fundraiser, which takes place from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Hot Cakes Diner, 1400 East 18th Avenue, is hosted by the Denver chapter of Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC), a spirited group of women who raise funds throughout the year to support local and national organizations that focus on the health and welfare of women and children in Denver.

Since 2004, Hot Cakes, which usually serves only breakfast and lunch, has opened its doors one night each year to lend aprons to LUPEC members and supporters who wait and bus tables. “We have entire families who look forward all year to sitting down to breakfast with us,” says Allison Gleichman, committee chair for the event. “We think Breakfast for Boobs is the perfect way to keep breast cancer awareness and fundraising top of mind.” With the exception of the kitchen crew — it’s all professionals working the griddle — the waitstaff is entirely volunteer.

Hot Cakes pares down its regular menu for the benefit, offering eight breakfast plates, including smoked salmon eggs Benedict — aptly named the “Pink Benny” — and donates 100 percent of all gratuities and 70 percent of all sales to breast cancer organizations. For more information, call Hot Cakes at 303-832-4351.
