Dress for Success

Sure, Denver is a hip, urban city, but it ain't Paris or New York City, so there are times when jeans and sandals just might qualify as formal wear. Finding the perfect outfit for an event here can be tricky, and that's where the What to Wear Where fashion show hopes to help.

"The show is about how do you dress for Do at the Zoo? It's fancy, but it's at the zoo. How do you dress for a night at the theater seeing South Pacific? Do you iron your jeans? What's appropriate?" muses Wendy Manning, marketing director for the Denver Pavilions, where the show will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. "We're going to dress six people up in outfits specifically for these events to show a fresh take on what to wear." The six had applied online for a style consultation, and they’ll be outfitted with looks appropriate for a Colorado Rockies game, a spring or summer gala and business meetings, among other situations. Gloria Neal will emcee, and Suzanne Brown, fashion editor for the Denver Post, will be going over the different looks as they come down the runway. Marian Rothschild, style writer for the Boulder Daily Camera, will be on hand before and after the show to answer style questions.

The event, which benefits Dress for Success, a nonprofit that provides professional attire for disadvantaged women, is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring gently used shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories. If you make such a donation, you can enter to win a sixty-minute consultation with a professional stylist. For more information, visit www.denverpavilions.com.
