Hog Heaven

You’re guaranteed a swine time at Lola, the Mexican restaurant at1575 Boulder Street that’s hosting a porkerific picnic tonight from 6:30 to 10 p.m. “Two years ago, we thought we needed to somehow celebrate our love of all things pig, so Austin Nall, our chef de cuisine at Lola, came up with the idea of actually having a feast dedicated to the pig, where we eat copious amounts of our favorite animal and drink amazing margaritas and delicious beer,” says Jamey Fader, culinary director of Big Red F, the restaurant group that owns Lola.

“This is a roast to spring and a celebration of Cinco de Mayo,” adds Fader, who’s bringing in two porky pigs from Salmon Creek Farms in Idaho. The porcine-centric menu includes trotter rellenos, whole-roasted pig tacos, jalapeño cured pork shoulder, cumin-smoked bacon, braised shank albóndigas, “buffalo” wings, belly pibil and green chile headcheese. “We’re using every part of the pig in this celebration,” he notes.

Picnic of the Pig is $65 per person, excluding tax and gratuity, and includes tunes from DJ Check One, two homemade margaritas, beer from Breckenridge Brewery and all the pig you can shove down your gullet. To purchase tickets, call 720-570-8686 or visit www.loladenver.com.
