On the Side of the Angels

In 1991, Philadelphia became the first city to hold Dining Out for Life, an endeavor that has since rallied restaurants in more than sixty cities across America, including Denver, to donate a portion of their food sales to AIDS education and awareness organizations. This year, over 300 restaurants in metro Denver and Boulder are taking part in the annual fundraiser, which benefits Project Angel Heart, a local nonprofit that prepares and delivers free meals to people suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

“We’re really excited about this year in particular, because we’ve had a tremendous amount of community support,” says Mindy Davidson, director of development for Project Angel Heart. “This single day of dining out raises 18 percent of our budget, which helps us share nutritious meals with those who really need our support.” You can donate your time and volunteer as an “ambassador,” or you can simply do your bit by eating breakfast, lunch and/or dinner out today at any of the participating restaurants (there’s a complete list at www.projectangelheart.org). And if you make an additional donation, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $1,000 cash prize.
