Something's Brewing

The inaugural Boulder Brew and Music Festival is actually three different events packaged together. "It grew from just a brew festival to a family event and music festival," explains spokesman Jay Kriner. Starting today at noon, 13th Street on the Hill will be closed for an afternoon of free family entertainment, including performances by the Streetside dance squad, acoustic music, and craft and food vendors. At 1 p.m., the Brew Session will kick off at the Fox Theatre, 1135 13th Street, with 30 brewers and over 55 beers from across the country. "If we can sell 500 tickets,” Kriner says, “we will donate to a charity of each brewer's choice that's equal to the value of the beer they give to the brew fest."

Finally, starting at 6 p.m. at the Fox, the Music Series will serve up six bands — Josh McWilliams, My Own Device, Vices I Admire, Speakeasy Tiger, UmConscious and MTHDS — performing everything from acoustic to indie to live instrumental to hip-hop. "These musicians are the biggest unsigned talent in Colorado," says Kriner.
