Local painter Rita Derjues specialty is wildly colored neo-Fauvist watercolors of the Western landscape, and her latest efforts are now on view in Roadblock at Artists on Santa Fe. You can see them today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or wait until tomorrows First Friday reception, from 6 to 9 p.m. Its a really fun show, says gallery director Macy Dorf. The reason its called Roadblock is because its about things that block the road where the road comes to an end, or where animals are in the road. Many of the paintings are set near the ghost town of Como. Rita and her husband, Carle, own three houses in Como, so theyre probably the largest landowners up there, says Dorf with a laugh. The paintings are very Rita. Theyre big, colorful, wonderfully creative pieces that are not at all your traditional watercolors.
