Arts Machine

Denver is a town that likes the arts but doesn’t always acknowledge art from the fringe. Still, Patrick Mueller and his Packing House Center for the Arts are drawing ever closer to solidifying the elusive goal of becoming a major venue for avant-garde performance with Stop. Crawl. Walk. Run., a multi-arts festival that debuts there tonight. Described as an “organic collaborative effort” by Mueller, whose resident dance troupe will be among the performers, the multimedia event was dreamed up by Kathy Plache, Mark Medina and Mike Ballard. And it shows the potential of coming off as a full-fledged spectacle.

What can you expect if you go? “Over-stimulation,” Mueller promises. “There will be two or three projectors and some TV screens going continuously, performances happening intermittently, improv actors, walls filled with art, and a fashion event that culminates the evening.”

Experience Stop. Crawl. Walk. Run. (and stay for the party) from 7 to 11:30 p.m. tonight or tomorrow at the Packing House, 835 East 50th Avenue; admission is $12. Visit http://controlgroupproductions.org for information.
Fri., May 7, 7-11:30 p.m.; Sat., May 8, 7-11:30 p.m., 2010
