How Does Your Garden Grow?

If you dream of a world where food illiteracy is a thing of the past and all kids know the difference between kohlrabi and kale, then tonight's Grow Local Colorado's Growing Our Urban AgriCULTURE spring potluck and networking party is for you.

Attendees interested in connecting with other urban gardening enthusiasts are asked to bring food and drinks to share (the more loca-centric the better), as well as their own plate, glass, silverware and napkin. And if you've already started your own garden, you can contribute a seedling to the Grow Local Colorado Edible Gardens in Denver Parks, a program aimed at providing fresh produce to communities in need.

"Last year our pilot project was a vegetable garden in Civic Center Park, and it produced so much and looked so lovely that they're letting us do six plots this year," says Grow Local Colorado volunteer coordinator Barbara Masoner. With help from Volunteers of Colorado, Grow Local Colorado and the Denver Parks and Recreation Stewardship Program will plant six garden plots across the city. The gardens should generate a wealth of fresh produce that will be donated to the Gathering Place, Food Bank of the Rockies, SAME Cafe, Lambeth Family Shelter, Mount Saint Vincent Home and the Highlands Church and Community Center.

For more information on tonight's potluck party or the edible garden project, visit www.growlocalcolorado.org. The free event is at the Denver Urban Homesteading center, 200 Santa Fe Drive, from 6 to 9 p.m. Please RSVP to pompomdana@comcast.net if you wish to attend.
Fri., May 14, 6-9 p.m., 2010
