Drake

Monday, May 17, Ogden Theatre, 303-830-8497.

Here's a plot line no one could have predicted two years ago: Canadian teen drama star turns into singer/rapper whose most famous freestyle involves reading lines off a BlackBerry. Buoyed by his association with Lil Wayne's Young Money imprint, he attains such massive success that he does a single for LeBron James's documentary with verses from Eminem, Kanye West and Lil Wayne, and somehow he comes out looking like the biggest star. The lead single off his upcoming album involves a hook with the following inane lyrics: "What am I doing?/What am I doing?/Oh, yeah, that's right/I'm doing me," yet said album is the odds-on favorite to be the top seller of 2010. It's called Thank Me Later, further proof that what Drake lacks in, you know, ability to rap, he makes up for in crazy enormous confidence. Sprinkle in some what-does-it-all-mean, and you've got the man being widely described as the next phase in the evolution of rap music.
