Rising Stars

Curious Theatre’s annual Denver Stories fundraiser always starts with the same formula: The quartet of local celebrities chosen to be honored with an on-stage bio invariably includes a restaurateur (handy for snacks), a politician, an entrepreneur and a figure from the arts and culture scene. “We just decide that this is the time to tell someone’s story,” says Curious yakker Tonya Malik. Even so, the results vary wildly from year to year — and the event itself can get really wild.

The 2010 Denver Stories crop includes Leigh Jones of Jonesy's EatBar, outgoing Colorado Speaker of the House Terrance Carroll, Patricia Barela Rivera of PBR Solutions (formerly of the Small Business Administration) and MCA Denver director Adam Lerner. “All these people have done cool stuff and have great stories,” Malik notes. “So we look for the niche: Who is this person? What gets them going? For instance, we found a connection to square dancing in Adam Lerner’s life…”

Discover what makes these four folks tick tonight at 6 p.m. at Curious, 1080 Acoma Street; cocktails and an auction are included in the $150 admission price. Visit www.curioustheatre.org or call 303-623-0524.
