Beyond Corned Beef

The sixteenth annual Boulder Jewish Festival is more than a great excuse to eat authentic, delicious corned beef sandwiches. In a larger sense, it's an opportunity to reconnect with the community. "A lot of the Boulder Jewish community isn't actively involved," says spokeswoman Cheryl Fellows. "It becomes the day that people can check out the whole scene in a low-key, open setting. It's an incredible opportunity to see the wide range of opportunities and maybe get involved."

Today, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Pearl Street Mall and the courthouse lawn will come alive with nine ethnic-food vendors, a kids’ game area, live music, and nonprofits ranging from faith community groups to social action organizations. "If you're bothered by something in the world and you want to see if there's a Jewish organization that addresses it, you can come and check that out," says Fellows. On the 1300 block of the mall, the main stage will host five bands, including headliner Dan Nichols and Eighteen. A bike garage and bike valet will also be available through Community Cycles.

All events are free. For more information, go to www.boulderjewishfestival.org.
