New Digs for the CVA

For nearly twenty years, Metropolitan State College of Denver’s mini-museum, the Center for Visual Art, was located in LoDo. Then this past spring, the CVA made the surprising announcement that it was moving to an old industrial building on Santa Fe Drive. And now, after months of renovations, its new home is being unveiled.

“We’re very excited to be moving into the art district The space is stunning,” says CVA assistant director Cecily Cullen. For the inaugural show, titled Mix, Cullen reached out to her neighbors by inviting thirty artists representing a number of the nearby galleries and co-ops. Among those included are Sue Simon, Roland Bernier, Irene Delka McCray, Anna Kaye, Maynard Tischler, Caroline Douglas, Stephen Shachtman, Macy Dorf and Annalee Schorr.

“We’ve thrown ourselves a housewarming party, but it’s not only about celebrating our new home. It’s also about opening a new home for the art community on Santa Fe,” Cullen says. The grand reopening, which also marks the twentieth anniversary of the CVA, is set for 7 to 9 p.m. at 965 Santa Fe Drive. Mix runs through July 3.
