Bling for a Cause

For Stephanie Shearer of Pandora Jewelry, a birthday party just wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t also a fundraiser for a great cause. Pandora, the long-lived anchor of the little retail/restaurant enclave on the 200 block of East 13th Avenue, turns seventeen this week, and to celebrate, Shearer and her neighbors are throwing Gettin' Hairy for Haiti, a big block party and, natch, a benefit for Vilaj Anouvo, a new sustainable orphanage to be built in Haiti. What’s on tap? Representatives from Haiti Orphan Rescue will be there to talk about the project, and Shearer also promises a giant local-artist trunk show and raffle, but the main event will no doubt be a trio of follicular contests for the "Most Hair-iest," "Most Mustachioed" and "Best Hair-dids," with hostess (and burlesque queen) Vivienne VaVoom and the Denver Roller Dolls doing the honors.

“We’re sexy and seventeen, and there’s nothing sexier than donating to Haiti right now,” Shearer says, noting that this is the time, six months after the earthquake-relief telethons and outpouring of immediate support, that Haitians need to begin rebuilding, and there’s no money left. Join Pandora, City O’ City, Moxie Hair Salon and Buffalo Exchange tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.; admission is free. Visit www.pandorajewelrydenver.com or call 303-832-7073.
