Perhaps its a wee bit presumptuous for the members of Auroras East End Arts District to call their slice of town the New Brooklyn. But theyve got the right idea picturing themselves as pioneers in a more affordable territory, and in order to understand what kind of scene is percolating out east, youve just got to go blend in for a while and see for yourself.

To that end, the annual East End Summer Art Walk, tonight between 5 and 9 p.m., offers myriad opportunities, beginning with the free pedicabs you can hop into at the walks official starting point, the MLK Jr. Library and Municipal Services Center, 9898 East Colfax Avenue. Pick up a map there (or online, beforehand) and youll be off to see public art and artist-designed benches, a community garden, art demos, traveling performances and more while visiting the districts many galleries, studios and arts facilities in the sixteen-block area along East Colfax Avenue between Clinton and Geneva streets and 14th and 16th avenues.
