Its Brewgrass time on Old South Pearl Street. This annual kick-ass bluegrass block party combines energetic guitar picking with dirty dancing, feasting and imbibing. The celebration, which rocks the 1200 block of South Pearl, kicks off at noon today with suds from fifteen breweries, numerous food booths and the Americana/rockabilly sounds of eight bluegrass bands, including Great American Taxi, a Leftover Salmon spinoff group.

More About
This is the kind of appealing-to-all-of-your-senses festival that looks good, sounds good, drinks good and tastes good, says event coordinator Nicole Jarman. Weve got several restaurants from Old South Pearl Street participating, including Pearl Street Grill, Indias Pearl and Hansons; weve got this great couple from Colombia doing awesome quesadillas and tamales; another vendor is doing Caribbean food, plus weve also got Italian ice, funnel cakes, deep-fried Twinkies, gelato and pizza, notes Jarman. Admission to Brewgrass is $5, with proceeds benefiting Old South Pearl Street Association projects, including, says Jarman, the beautification of the street.
The $5 entrée fee doesnt buy your beer or food, however: Brews are five bucks each, and foodstuffs are priced between $5 and $12. Tickets are available at the gate. For more info, go to www.oldsouthpearlstreet.com.
