Starting today and continuing through Saturday, the festival includes three staged readings of local work; a workshop titled Beginnings: Getting Into the Play; a New Play Festival Rap/Wrap Party, where attendees can mingle with actors and playwrights; and a late-night adventurous look at social media, with five raw, ten-minute plays inspired by Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. "It's kind of down and dirty, very much like the social media that drives the plays," notes Lavezza. The staged readings include The Charisma Contest, by Coleen Hubbard; Lost Creatures, by Melissa Lucero McCarl; and Breslin Rayhope, by Judy GeBauer.
The Play's the Thing takes place at the Bug Theatre, 3654 Navajo Street. Tickets for the workshop are $30; the staged readings are free. For more information, call 303-780-7836 or go to www.modernmusetheatre.com.
