To the Maxwell

You might have seen the lovely and talented Brini Maxwell on the Style Network; the savvy personality can speak with authority on everything from creating the best deviled eggs you’ve ever had to repurposing old furniture. Maxwell — who's brought to life by actor and cabaret performer Ben Sanders in the finest RuPaul style — will visit Denver and host today’s Crafts for the Masses, a Denver Public Library Fresh City Life program.

“It really is supposed to be like Reverend Sun Myung Moon’s mass ceremony meets DIY,” explains DPL’s cultural programming director, Chris Loffelmacher. “I just thought it’d be really fun to get a group of people together in one room, working on the same thing and sharing not only ideas, but materials.”

Loffelmacher and Maxwell thought pompoms and tassels would be a perfect fit for such an endeavor. “We wanted to pick something that was an easy investment and that people could learn very quickly and make a few of before the day was over,” Loffelmacher says. “And she said, ‘Why not a tassel- and pompom-a-thon?’”

The workshop runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway, with an hour break for lunch. All materials are included in the $25 admission fee. Visit http://denverlibrary.org/freshfor information.
