Jonathan Peters at Beta

New York City's Jonathan Peters is one of those DJs who's been around forever, worked with everyone and somehow still remained a virtual unknown. Perhaps that's because he's always focused on remixing, production and playing out, without releasing any big-name mix discs or artist albums. More than a decade ago, he was playing New York City's hottest clubs, leading to work remixing some serious heavy hitters. His resumé includes mixes for Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, the Spice Girls, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, as well as dozens of other artists, both mainstream and underground. His sound is a dark, tribal-touched take on progressive house. It's a sound that's steeped in his Big Apple history, similar to the work of fellow NYC residents like Danny Tenaglia. Catch him this Thursday, June 17, when he plays Beta for the first time.
