Spellbinding

Ellen Dugan has written numerous books on practical magic, including 2004’s 7 Days of Magic: Spells, Charms & Correspondences for the Bewitching Week. “I’ve taught from the basics every place I’ve been,” Dugan says, “and I said if I ever had the opportunity, I was going to expand 7 Days.” That’s exactly what she did with her latest tome, Book of Witchery: Spells, Charms & Correspondences for Every Day of the Week. “It has been expanded 2.7 times larger,” she says. “This book is more in-depth. It offers potion recipes, daily meditations for each day of the week, and it goes more in-depth on certain things. I’ve always pushed to all my students that if you know your basics — what goes with what, what is complementary with which item — you don’t have to waste your time flipping through reference books. You can personalize and adapt. The key to making magic more powerful lies in personalization. By learning those basic correspondences, you can learn what your specialty is and what makes it unique. You open up a whole new box of tools.”
