The DAM Slows It Down

They just don’t make ’em like they used to. Tonight, the Denver Art Museum combats that slipshod rush of the efficient modern world with “Sloth,” the latest entry in its Untitled series, during which the museum hosts musicians, performers and activities centered around a theme on the last Friday of the month.

Tonight’s show features round two of Style Wars, organized by the Fabric Lab: Twelve designers will each get a model, an assistant, materials and thirty minutes to whip up some wearable fashion; in this edition, no sewing machines are allowed (because the theme…you get it). Music will be provided by Ian Cooke and his beautiful brand of chamber pop, and though his tunes aren’t necessarily slow, his cello does conjure a certain handcrafted mystique. Elsewhere, the local “interactive urban farm” GrowHaus will show folks how to grow their own food.

And, of course, there will be an appearance from Joan and Charlie in the “pool room” (the third-floor freight elevator) in Buntport Theater’s recurring play, which, explains the troupe’s Evan Weissman, was conceived when “we saw a painting at the museum that was called ‘Joan and Charlie’ and decided to bring that painting to life.” Stay tuned: Joan has yet to get into the pool.

The museum is at 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway. Untitled goes from 6 to 10 p.m., and is free with museum admission. (Admission is free for members, two-for-one for students.) For details, call 720-865-5000 or visit www.denverartmuseum.org.
