Its hard to believe that Ironton Studios and Gallery put the River North arts district on the map eleven years ago, but its true. And to celebrate that milestone, Ironton is presenting a straightforwardly titled show of its members, Ironton Group Show & Party, which opens this evening. With the events we have -- ten shows a year -- the space is really maturing, the gardens are maturing, and RiNo is really coming into its own, too, says artist and gallery director Jill Hadley Hooper.
The festivities kicking off the Fourth of July weekend are an annual event at Ironton. The party is really great and theres a fabulous view of the fireworks at Coors Field, Hooper says. Were not downtown, but were pretty close -- and, unlike downtown, weve got plenty of free parking.
The artists in the show, who will be exhibiting new work, all have studios at Ironton, including two new residents -- Chase DeForest, a furniture-maker, and Yoshitomo Saito, a sculptor. There wasnt a curator, notes Hooper. Instead, its been pretty collaborative, with each artist being given a certain amount of space. The reception runs from 7 to 11 p.m. at Ironton, 3636 Chestnut Place. For more information, call 303-296-5583 or go to www.irontonstudios.com.
